About the Project
Shapir Civil and Marine Engineering Ltd. has won the Israel Airports Authority tender to construct the Ben Gurion Airport West Interchange and the airport’s new entrance. Valued at approximately NIS 1 billion, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion on Highway 1 and significantly shorten travel times to the airport.
The new interchange is expected to reduce the journey to the airport by approximately 10 kilometers for travelers arriving from the Tel Aviv–Jerusalem Highway, improve access to Ben Gurion Airport, and alleviate congestion on Highway 1 between the Habad Interchange and the airport entrance.
The project includes the construction of three bridges over the Ayalon Stream, connecting Highway 1 directly to the terminals and enabling faster departures from the airport. In addition, a new entrance checkpoint facility spanning approximately four dunams will be built, featuring nine vehicle inspection lanes and advanced technologies.
Shapir will carry out the works within the airport grounds, while Israel’s National Transport Infrastructure Company (Netivei Israel) is responsible for another portion of the project. Completion is expected in early 2029.
The project is part of a broader plan to upgrade Ben Gurion Airport’s infrastructure and prepare for anticipated growth in passenger traffic, which is expected to reach approximately 30 million passengers annually by 2030.
