The desalination plant in Ashdod is one of five desalination facilities operating in Israel and is responsible for 12% of the domestic water consumption. In 2021, the Shapir Group was awarded a tender to manage and upgrade the plant, and in 2022, it officially switched to operating the Group’s partnership with Bluegen. Parallel to the plant’s ongoing work, the Group launched the construction of the power plant and upgraded the existing structure. Upon completion of the work, the Ashdod desalination plant will have a maximum capacity of 140 million cubic meters and a concession to desalinate 100 million cubic meters of water per year.
